This special 95 vs super 98 guide explains the grades in plain language. It does not say that one grade saves fuel or performs better than another. Check your car's manual.

What the grades mean

Super 98 has an octane rating of 98, Special 95 has 95, and E-Plus 91 has 91. Octane is a measure of how a fuel resists knocking in an engine. It is not a measure of quality in general, and a higher number is not automatically better for every car.

How to choose

Open your car manual and find the minimum octane it requires. Use a grade at or above that minimum, as the manual directs. If the manual names one grade, use that grade. If you are unsure, ask your dealer or manufacturer rather than guessing from price alone.
